COBURG: Historic Township Map Print 1967

Regular price $148.00

Discover the charm of historic Coburg, Melbourne with this vintage township map print from 1967. Coburg, once synonymous with bluestone quarrying, the suburb once housed 41 quarries in mid-late 1800's, reflecting its pivotal role in Melbourne's development.

In addition to its industrial legacy, Coburg holds cultural significance with the establishment of HM Prison Pentridge in 1850, where prisoners were famously put on "hard labour" breaking bluestone for road construction. The suburb's transformation was further underscored by a public initiative to rename the district, culminating in its adoption of the name Coburg in 1870, marking a pivotal moment in its history.
